Mr. Miller graduated with honors from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1979, where he was an editor of The Tax Lawyer. Thereafter, he accepted a commission as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps, where he served on active duty until 1984. Upon discharge from active duty, he joined a prominent Honolulu law firm as a litigation associate. In 1989, Mr. Miller -- along with Mr. Tom and Mr. Petrus -- joined 11 other attorneys as original partners in forming a prominent Honolulu law firm specializing in litigation and international business. He joined Tom Petrus & Miller, LLLC as a partner during 1999.

Mr. Miller’s practice focuses upon first party insurance litigation, with an emphasis upon coverage and bad faith defense. In recent years, he has successfully represented major insurance companies as trial counsel in precedent setting cases involving automobile, homeowner, fire, disability, CGL, D&O, condominium, maritime, business, church, umbrella, and rental policies. Mr. Miller appears regularly before the Hawaii Appellate Courts and U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on insurance matters. He has lectured and conducted seminars for the National Business Institute, HI Continuing Legal Education Program, and numerous insurance organizations in the fields of insurance coverage and bad faith. Mr. Miller has been selected by peer voting for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2008®, specializing in Insurance Law.

Mr. Miller is married with four children. He remains active in the National Eagle Scout Association, and he recently retired from the U. S. Navy Reserve, where he held the rank of Captain and served as the Reserve Aide to the Deputy Commander of the U. S. Pacific Fleet. Mr. Miller is a long distance runner who has completed 37 marathon races.
